The contest is limited to 8 contestants 18 yrs or older, so sign up now. Contestants will be granted entry into the contest based on the first come, first serve order that emails are received through the contact us home page on the 4mfest.com website. Please include your name, the name of your entry and the email you would like us to correspond with. Competitors will then receive emails regarding the competition.
Chili may be created off site and brought to the competition. When doing so it must be created according to safe serve practices and Virginia health department codes. Including during transport to the event. Serving gloves for hands will also be necessary when serving. (gloves not provided by 4 Mfest.)
If contestants so desire they may prep in our on site kitchen. The kitchen will open at. Only 2 electric stoves are available so any possible pre-preparation is recommended.
Tickets must be purchased at the missionary stations if you want to taste the chili or to be a judge for the peoples choice chili award. Anyone except chili contestants may be a judge. Tickets cost a dollar each per sample cup. Limit one sample per ticket. Tasters and judges are allowed to purchase as many tickets as they wish. Chili contestants are not to give free samples. The most votes for chili contest winner will be tallied from these voter tickets. The chili contestant with the most tickets by wins. Additional Door prizes will be picked from the chili contestant ticket buckets. Ticket collection buckets will be provided by 4mfest and shall be maintained in front of your display section in plain view at all times. Voting will end at for the peoples choice award.
All chili is to be served out of a crockpot or equivalent warming apparatus to be provided by the contestant. All warming equipment will be required to maintain a proper warming temperature capacity throughout the duration of the 2 hour competition or competitors face disqualification. Bring your own extension cord 50 ft. or less.
Contestants will have a 2 foot by 3 foot table space indoors to setup their station. Any decor must be appropriate for public display. Promotional logos and business cards are acceptable but only if they are confined to your space. Contestants may also offer enticements such as chili toppings, cornbread, or crackers, provided they meet Va. health dept. standards.
Be prepared verbally and with signage to label your chili and man the station continuously throughout the competition or until the chili is all depleted. 2 or more people working in shifts is acceptable if one person is unable to man the chili station continuously. Competitors will serve their chili in sample containers provided by 4mfest to maintain equality. Signs should; have the competitors name, list ingredients, if it’s hot or mild , no meat or meat and kind of meat. Also be prepared to answer questions about ingredients regarding food allergies from those sampling your chili.
Each contestant will receive a participant Ladle award. The peoples choice winner based on the most event attendee votes, receives a fifty dollar chef store gift card. Throughout the evening one door prize will be drawn from each chili contestant bucket and awarded to the matching attendee ticket holder.
Should the need arise any changes to these rules are possible up until the competition begins. Competitors will be notified immediately regarding any rule changes.
